The Dussich Dance Studio was founded in 1958 by Liz Dussich Bevilacqua. The studio,
located on Merritt Island at 125 Imperial Street (off 520 behind the Red Lobster) is
currently owned and operated by Ms Liz Bevilacqua and Mr. Al Packard.
The physical facility consists of an approximately 4000 square foot building with
two class rooms, reception area and viewing area. Both class rooms have
floating floors with special dance floor surfaces.
The main core classes consist of ballet, tap, jazz, acrobatics, hip hop,
lyrical and modern. Along with the standard core subjects, there are classes
for young students consisting of parent-child, pre-school, and combination
(ballet/tap. Other classes offered are: adult tap, adult ballet, musical
theater, leaps & turns, Pilates and yoga and sometimes zumba. The studio
also provides a demonstrator/teacher training program to help those students
that are interested in the teaching aspect of dance as opposed to the
performing side. The studio has graduated a number of students who have
gone on to teach or to open their own studios or to perform with professional
dance companies around the country.
The fall schedule begins with the opening of school in mid August and
concludes with our annual recital at the end of May or beginning of
June. Summer session is normally 6 to 8 weeks from mid June to early
August (depending of recital date). A detail of the class schedule may
be seen by selecting schedules.
Eight of the twelve members of the faculty have been certified to teach
by examination through Florida Dance Masters, Inc.
The students of the studio have the opportunity each year to audition
for membership in the Dussich Imperial Dance Company. The Company
presents a gala each year at Brevard Community College Fine Arts
Auditorium in Cocoa called “Sharing Through Dance”. A portion
of the proceeds from this performance helps benefit a community charity.
The Company also does other small community performances each year.
To further enhance our students training, master classes are
periodically conducted at the studio with well known guest teachers and
the students have the opportunity to attend two Florida Dance Masters
conventions to study with an outstanding faculty. Through Florida Dance
Masters organization the students have the opportunity to attend their
annual Scholarship Auditions once they reach the age of 14. These
auditions in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz and Acrobatics open the
possibility of receiving up to $800 in scholarship money.
